Will Berkeley run out of parking spaces? Traditionally, Berkeley has given designated parking spots to professors who have won Noble Prizes. This year 3 Noble Laureates have Berkeley connections.

• Gary Ruvkun (Berkeley BA) - Noble Prize in Physiology or Medicine for ‘discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation’

• David Baker (Berkeley PhD) - Nobel Prize in Chemistry for ‘computational protein design.’

• John Hopfield (ex-Berkeley Professor) - Noble Prize in Physics for ‘foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks’

Berkeley has had close to 100 Noble Prize winners- we are really going to need to work on some better parking options on campus. Especially as this is free parking for life!
